Description

This is a fine example of a Rookwood vase from the 1920s by Louise Abel.  She has created a Greek frieze design on this vase with nudes that follow the complete round of the vase, top to bottom.  It is glazed in a dark chocolate brown with cream colored rubbings on the edges of the bodies. The vase is dated 1922, and the design number is 2522.  The artist’s hallmark is on the bottom along with the Rookwood pottery mark.
The vase measures 5′ tall and 3 3/4″ across the diameter on the bottom.  The top opening measures 2 1/2″ across.
There is a chip on the underside rim of the vase bottom.  It has created a hairline crack which runs into the body by approximately 3/4″.  It is difficult to see because of the busy figural design, the cream colored rubbings, and where it is situated.  It has not created a structural problem.  Please see the photos.
